Aaron Schuman to present SLANT as part of Arnolfini Art in the City talks
Launching Document and Location’s 2019 programme and presented as part of Arnolfini and UWE’s Art in the City talks, member Aaron Schuman will be discussing his new project SLANT, recently published by MACK Books, as well as notions of Documentary practice more broadly on 22nd May 2019.
Exploring documentary, art and popular culture, Schuman’s work interrogates the complex relationships between truth, place, memory and storytelling through contemporary photographic practice.
Aaron Schuman’s recent work, SLANT, presents a series of bizarre, anticlimactic accounts of crimes as published in a Massachusetts newspaper between 2014-2018. Presenting these alongside quietly wry photographs taken with in the area, this tongue-in-cheek, affectionate project took on a new flavour as “fake news” and “alternative facts” spread across the mainstream following the 2016 American election.
Schuman’s talk will be followed by the Bristol launch of SLANT. The artist will be present to sign copies of the book.
Entrance is free to UWE art students and staff (on presentation of ID card).
More details on the event be found on the Arnolfini website here.
