DOCUMENT AND LOCATION AWARDED UWE RESEARCH GROUP FUNDING FOR 2023 PROGRAMME

We are delighted to announce that Document and Location have been awarded research funding from the Faculty of Arts, Creative Industries and Education at the University of the West of England, Bristol for the fifth consecutive year.

The funding award of £4,000 will support the group’s ongoing publishing and public events programmes, as well as members’ academic publishing and contributions to national and international events.

2022 saw Document and Location continue to grow its membership through the welcoming of Bristol-based artist and writer and UWE Senior Lecturer in Fine Art, Lizzie Lloyd. In conversation with curator Marianne Mulvey at Arnolfini, Bristol, Lloyd and Katy Beinart discussed their collaborative project Acts of Transfer and its new accompanying publication.

Recipient of the South West Showcase Award 2022, member Huma Mulji produced her ambitious solo exhibition Your Tongue in My Mouth at MIRROR gallery. In conjunction with Mulji’s show, Document and Location commissioned the new critical essay In the Eye of the Storm by Asma Mundrawala that explored the exhibition’s core ideas and concepts. Document and Location also published a new edition of Fieldwork that provided a snapshot into the various points of material and conceptual research that were influential to the development of Your Tongue in My Mouth.

In 2022, Document and Location founder Simon Morrissey and member Aaron Schuman were the recipients of two prestigious promotions to Associate Professor of Fine Art and Associate Professor of Photography & Visual Culture respectively, at the University of the West of England.

Throughout 2023 the group’s research will continue to inform a public programme of discursive events and publishing delivered in partnership with Foreground.
